from the archives: the 2001 Marzocchi RAC 100 coil

Another look back in our product archives, this time we have probably the rarest and most desirable of all classic Marzocchi’s, the 2001 carbon fibre RAC 100.

Marzocchi RACRAC stands for Reverse Arch Composite and represents the most advanced carbon composite suspension fork ever developed for a mountain bike. With nearly two years of co-development time between Marzocchi and Easton Composites, the RAC is ready to go. Using an upper structure made from carbon and aluminium composites; the RAC has the most rigid crown and leg assembly ever created. This rigid construction gives a perfect, flex-free assembly for the inner legs making stiction non-existent and providing phenomenal small bump performance. The RAC’s lower section uses 20mm magnesium dropouts and 30mm Easton EA70 inner legs to keep things nice and stiff during sessions of great stress. Mountain Bike Magazine (USA) made a bold statement saying the RAC is “the best cross country fork they have ever ridden”. The RAC is available in either coil or air springs in both 100mm or 120mm travel.

from the archives: 2003 Marzocchi Super Monster T 300mm travel

Monster Series 2003
The all-new, totally redesigned, 2003 Monster’s can be described in a single word “Monstrous”! When it’s time to go bigger than your insurance deductible allows, it’s time to take a Monster for a ride. We’ve taken every component on the Monster and redesigned it inside out. We started with our seriously adjustable Shiver MX cartridge dampers and put one in each leg, that’s two per fork! These dampers allow for externally adjustable low-speed, high speed, and rebound control. We have a new stronger and stiffer M-styled bolt-on arch that’s attached to two forged-cnc machined sliders with massive disc brake mounting posts. The upper and lower clamps are forged and cnc-machined, and anodized displaying the utmost attention to quality strength, and performance. The top clamp also accepts our direct mount stem option as does all our dual crown fork models. There are three Monster models to choose from, Super monster (300mm travel), Monster T (200mm travel), and the Monster T2 (200mm travel) for those riders on a Monster budget but still want to go Monster big.

#eurobike report - Marzocchi prototypes

The 888 forks have prototype titanium nitrate coated stanchions. What is really cool about these as TiN coatings are usually only applied to steel, what Marzocchi have done is Nickel plate the stanchion (stock fork is Nickel), polish it, than have the TiN coating applied. Obviously this is an expensive process so the stanchions may well be introduced as a ‘works’ kit upgrade for 2011 then maybe production for 2012?

The benefit of using TiN coated stanchions is they will be more resilient to stone chips as well as low in friction –the low friction action of these triple eights had to be felt to be believed.

The coloured stanchions are hard anodised with a coloured die added – these may or may not be offered depending on reaction.

RECALL NOTICE: FSA Gossamer BB30 Crankset

Important: This post was originally dated November 19th 2010.

Full Speed Ahead (FSA) has received reports that the bolt shoulder on the non-drive Gossamer BB30 series crankarms can crack and break if the installer exceeds the recommended torque specification while tightening the crankbolt. If the bolt shoulder is cracked or damaged in any way, the crank arm can potentially loosen, allowing the rider to lose control and fall.
In the United States, this voluntary recall is being handled in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), while for the rest of the world FSA is managing the recall program through the Service Centers and Distributors network.
Only certain serial numbers are affected. Gossamer BB30 non-drive crank arms that are subject to recall have serial numbers beginning with 10B, 10C, and 10D.

We ask to all FSA Distributors to inform Dealers in order to inspects their inventory of bicycles with Gossamer BB30 crankset preassembled as OEM equipment.
It is also requested that dealers contact customers who may have purchased bicycles with Gossamer BB30 cranksets installed. Bicycles with non-drive crank arms subject to recall should not be ridden until a replacement non-drive crank arm has been installed.

The replacement crankarm full availability will be starting from December, 1st.
Owners in Europe and Asia can get their replacement crankarm via the official FSA Distributors or FSA Europe directly.
The installation of the new crankarm must be done following the new BB30 Alloy Road Crankset Installation Instructions here enclosed.
Please read with attention the US and Europe Recall document here attached to get all information about the list of bicycle models affected by the recall.

We need you important help to provide our customers the best service and assistance in case of replacement part.

To receive replacement non-drive crankarms and for other questions, please contact Full Speed Ahead Europe.
